Why change the camera?

The old wide lens gave the desk a curved view. The aim was to give the hand tracker a less distorted image that could be mapped to the projected surface more accurately.

The distinction here is field of view: how much of the scene the camera sees. I call it depth of field in the clip, but that is a different property. A narrower view also means checking that the whole desk still fits in the frame.

What had to happen after fitting it

The new camera uses the Pi's camera ribbon connection. The hardware record documents powering the Pi down for the swap, retaining the old calibration as a fallback, and planning fresh focus and calibration checks for the new lens.

Changing the lens changes how camera positions map onto the desk. Fitting the camera therefore does not finish the job: the tracker needs a new calibration, followed by a real interaction test.

What this clip establishes

The replacement camera is fitted, and depth-sensor work has started. The clip does not contain a measured tracking comparison or a working depth-assisted touch demonstration. Better tracking is the reason for the change, not a result established by this installation video.

Later follow-up

The September 12–13 records describe focus adjustment, a fresh calibration and a passing desk verification grid. Pinch control still needed investigation, so a separate camera comparison and hand-selection test followed. Those results belong to the testing updates. The depth sensor also needed its own wiring and measurement work before it could be judged as a touch input.
